Over in the Howardian Hills, Nunnington Hall, Rievaulx Abbey and the temples at Rievaulx Terrace are all fabulously-idyllic places to walk, spend time and take in the scenery. Helmsley with its many independent shops and eateries, is also a delightful market town.
Like Pickering, Helmsley has its own English Heritage castle which backs on to Helmsley Walled Garden where you can wander amongst the vibrant flowers meadows, glass houses, apple orchards and allotments. Again, a place for garden-lovers and only a few miles away, stands the stately-home of Castle Howard.
Used as the location for Bridehead Revisted and more recently, Bridgerton, the opulent interiors, fountains and rose gardens draw thousands of visitors each year.
