Pickering is certainly the town of a young child’s dream and perhaps it is this magical combination and the area’s beauty and unique character which continue to attract film and television companies alike.
Famously, the North Yorkshire Moors Railway featured in the ‘Harry Potter’ film series and the ‘Indiana Jones’ and ‘Mission Impossible’ franchises both filmed here recently with release dates set for 2023.
Goathland is perhaps the most famous stop on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Internationally-renowned as Hogsmeade station in the Harry Potter series, this location had previously gained world-wide attention as the fictional town of ‘Aidensfield’ in the popular series ‘Heartbeat’. Fans of the series still flock to the iconic village on the Moors to enjoy a pint in the Aidensfield Arms or admire vintage cars parked up on the garage forecourt.
If vintage cars are your passion then be sure to visit neighbouring village Thornton-le-Dale, home to ‘Matthewsons’ classic car auction house and the TV series, ‘Bangers and Cash’ where all kinds of vehicles from throughout the decades can be viewed. If antiques are more your interest then travel in the opposite direction to Kirbkymoorside to visit ‘The Yorkshire Auction House’ where you may get to witness local celebrity auctioneer, Angus Ashworth in action with his gavel. Further on down the road, Helmsley Walled Gardens used as one of the stunning locations for ‘The Secret Garden’ provides a fabulous way to spend a sunny afternoon.
